I'm feeling stressed out about this today. I have five weeks left of maternity leave (well, five weeks and two days) and I'm still pregnant. I have been working at this company for about 10 months and they made sure to let me know several times that since I haven't been with them a year, they do NOT have to give me maternity and/or guarantee me my job back for after leave but they will, out of the utter kindness of their hearts. They offered me a 6 week leave. I started my leave on wednesday bec I was up half of tues night with strong contractions and even though they stopped by morning, I didn't feel well enough to keep working. Just some background: I do homecare and it's a 1 1/2 hour commute each way (3 hrs total) and the function of my job is that I'm walking a LOT throughout the day (think, miles) with a heavy bag which contains a laptop. But here I am, no sign of labor in sight and I'm very aware of the ticking clock of work. At this point even if I deliver on wednesday that will still have be back traipsing around for miles in just 5 weeks- that doesn't seem normal or doable to me. I AM looking for another job and have started sending my resume around as in general, I find the work very draining, but I'm wondering if there's any way around this or if anyone has any tips for me to at least not feel so nervous and stressed about it. I just want to relax and enjoy this birth and new baby be'h, without this horrible pressure over my head. I am trying to remember that Hashem is in charge, but I would love any other insight or support.

Take a look at the Pregnancy Discrimination Act just so you are clear about company policy, leaves, etc. www.eeoc.gov/laws/statutes/pregnancy.cfmBabies come when they are ready. In reading your post, I am not sure which is/are the thing/s that are causing you the most anxiety: Childcare? Commute? Balancing mommyhood and work? Way around this, meaning what? Sounds like you never liked the job much - but it is a job and you took it for a reason to begin with. Review and sort. My two children are in their 20's. My granddaughter is 5 months old. I spent 5 months on complete bedrest both times and I thought the world would cave in. Guess what? We're all still here, thank G-d. Focus on one thing for the next few days: having your baby! And then, do nothing else but the baby/rest and attend to appropriate welcoming ceremonies for the week after. Jobs come and go. Children and their arrivals are unbelievable moments in time. It will work itself out the way it is supposed to be. Keep us posted.

Bobbie that is great advice and resource. Yeah the world hasnt caved in any of the dozens of times that I thought it would as well. But I can relate to psycheds anxiety. Uncertainty is tough and when we have such draconian maternity leaves you do want to make the most of it. I cant give advice here but please know that this will work itself out. May Hashem help you with an easy labor and delivery, healthy and happy baby and much hatzlacha. Please try to enjoy this period of time. And perhaps the company can swap your laptop for a lighter one . We just purchased a really light one from Bestbuy.

Thanks everyone. I actually just heard a shuir on davening. My husband is unbelievably supportive of all this. I'm concerned bec I am our primary source of income, but the truth is, this position has been very draining for all of us (myself, my husband, and the kids) maybe Hashem is nudging me to find something else. Be'h the baby will come in the right time!
