I attended a career fair at the Javits Center (looooong lines, tons of new grads, each recruiter had a stack of resumes a foot high) and after leaving feeling rather dispirited, I went to the Chai Lifeline office which is only a few blocks away. Anyway, they were thrilled that an RN was volunteering her services (and shocked at how hard it is for new grad RNs to find jobs these days). So IY"H I'll be doing home respite care for Chai Lifeline families one night a week, and hospital respite care as the need arises. I think this will be a great experience and a great opportunity for me. I wish I had started with them earlier, but of course with school+work+family I could only handle so many demands on my time.

In addition to a huge mitzvah, you may find this very rewarding. Hashem should bless you with every success in helping these families!

Chaya, I don't know who you'll be interacting with, but a very fine rav named Rav Moshe Bomzer used to work for them when he was doing his PhD in a counseling a few years ago. If he is still in the organization, and at all related to what you're doing - seek him out. He is a very kind, experienced man. And tell him I said hello if you think of it.
