I am feeling very let down.
Last week our school had a graduation ceremony and honored "outstanding graduates." I did not get any recognition.
I am not trying to toot my own horn here, but I am a mother of 7, including one born this year, and still managed to graduate with a near perfect GPA (mostly A's, a couple A-'s). Oh, and I held down a job all this time as well. Meanwhile the school chose to honor some graduates who have barely passing grades, with no kids or other responsibilities. I just don't get it.
I am venting here because there really is no other place where I can let this out. I don't want to sound petty and resentful. And whether I get recognition or not shouldn't matter in the long run. But it would be nice to have something to put on a resume. And knowing that my hard work and achievements were recognized would mean a lot to me as well.

I award you "student and mother of the year", it is an amazing acheivement, and I do appreciate how difficult it must all be, how organized you have to keep yourself, I recognize the imprint of the pencil on your forehead as you fell asleep studying yet another chapter, Being a mother of 7 is an amazing achievement of its own, and Kol HaKavod. Let your accolades come from HaKadosh Baruch Hu,. You had a ton on your plate, work, home, kids, pregnancy, school (with near perfect GPA) - what school is this that didn't appreciate your acheivements...they must be waiting for some super award to give you, you certainly deserve it. I am sure they appreciate you at home and that is where it counts. Dont hang your ego on work- keep it at home where it belongs!! I am so proud of you!!!

When I graduated nursing school I felt the same way during the pinning ceremony. It was true that many of the students that received awards deserved it, but... The story does not end there. After the ceremony, when most of the guests were gone and some of us were still mingling in the crowd, a professor handed me an award (privately) and apologized profusely that she forgot to hand it to me! She didn't even make an announcement!

Hey, princess was right. I came back today for the summer session (we graduate in may even though the program doesn't end until August) and people came up to me and told me that I had received the top academic honor. I missed the ceremony because it was on Shavuos, but was told that awardees would be informed by email. When I wasn't informed I assumed that I hadn't gotten anything....

chayan and mypprincess, that's disappointing that you didn't get the public recognition, BUT you can now put it on your resume! :-)
BTW how funny that you both actually did receive awards, but did not have a big public fuss made about it. Remember this?
Melachim II - II Kings - Chapter 4
3. And he [Elisha] said, "Borrow vessels for yourself from outside, from all your neighbors; do not borrow only a few empty vessels. 4. And you shall come and close the door about yourself and about your sons, and you shall pour upon all these vessels; and the full one you shall carry away."
Rashi says: And you shall close the door: It affords respect to the miracle if it comes about in secret.
Often, good things need to come in private, for them to hold a bracha and be lasting. Mazal Tov! :-)
