B"H I just passed my NCLEX and am getting married b'ezras Hashem right after Sukkos. I'm moving to Brooklyn and am now looking for a job in NY. Does anyone know of any job openings or suggestions of places to look? Ideally I would love to work in peds or neonatology, but I'm trying to be open to anything that sounds promising. Also, do you think it would be a bad idea to get my first job in a non-hospital setting, such as a doctor's office? I know that the job market is tough in NY and I only want to work days, so I'll consider most options, unless it would be a terrible move career-wise for getting experience. As a side question, does anyone know about NY reciprocity? I called the NY state board of Nursing and the man told me that I have to apply for a NY license. The application that he told me about sounds as if I don't currently hold a license from PA and it's very intense with loads of paperwork. In addition does anyone know if it makes any difference whether I apply for a NY license b4 I change my name, or should i wait to apply until I change my name on my PA license? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Prepare an amazing resume and send it out to anywhere close to where you will be living Your license can be on your maiden name or married,it doesnt matter. Have ur marriage license available to prove ur new name. Mazal TOv on ur engagement!!!! Take whatever job comes ur way and keep looking for the job u want you can always change when u find ur dream job. Yes, it is difficult to apply for a Rn license in NY, good luck, just follow their instructions.

If you ever want to work in a hospital, it's best for your first job to be in a hospital. Or an LTC. Otherwise, they barely consider it experience, and for good reason. You will not be prepared to do hospital work. It would be like orienting as a new nurse out of school, if you switched to a hospital job from non-acute care. That being said, Mrs. Terebelo worked in home care for years and got a job in a hospital, but like I said, orientation was very difficult for her. You may want to ask her about her experience.

Hi chani! I think we're going to miss you over Rosh Hashana! You may be able to get into my current hospital... let me know if you want me to put in a word for you. Hey- you can take my position! It's in Queens, though...

I hold licenses in NY, PA and MO. There was a simple process for reciprocity (based on passing NCLEX) that you can find out from the state websites.
