Ours is finished. We need to buy a new range/oven. Have any of your bought one recently? Any advice? I'm presently doing the homework to see what may be most useful from a Yom Tov aspect, including looking at Rav Heineman's recommendations. My wife and I even found one old-design gas range/oven with pilot lights.
Any ideas welcome.
Thanks!

The nearest kosher restaraunt is in Denver - 300+ miles. And it isn't an inexpensive felafel and schwarma place, either.

My husband says that if you want a gas oven good for Yom Tov, you can buy an addition for by an Israeli company called Machon Tzomet- check it out- its some sort of Shabbos clock for gas ovens to use on Chag.Good Luck

Thanks Rivka.
Pilot lights are becoming a rarity. Safety issue. Nearly all the gas stoves actually ignite electrically with an element that heats up with turning the oven on/heat up. We did find one little Hotpoint oven that has a pilot. Like something my grandmother cooked on.
We tend to avoid German products, so Miele is off the list. Star-K okays quite a few units, but I'm still undecided on all this.
Any other input welcome!

1. Oh, yeh we have a gas range with an electric igniter, so I opened the gas on yomtov and lit it with a candle. Still nice to have gas and not an electric flat top, like at my old apartment. 2. Oops, didn't notice that miele was German. I am with you on that. (Aren't most Egged buses from Germany?)

(Aren't most Egged buses from Germany?) That was part of the reparations agreement with Germany in the 50s. The famous incident with Mr. Begin throwing his shoe in protest in the Knesset, and then being ejected for it occurred then.

While I agree with the boycott on German made goods and services, I have to ask about the other countries- Italy etc., that were equally bold in their antisemitic actions....
Perhaps there is a Dutch made oven you like?

First off, I want to emphasize that this is my own emotional response. I don't claim it is rational and certainly not required as a halachic stance.
Certainly Jew hatred was (is) rampant in many places, but it is historically questionable and doubtable if the nations would have acted en masse on their own as they did once there was German urging, encouragement, approbation.

I'm IY"H going to be in the market for a new oven in a couple of months. I've been checking the Star K list against what's available at our local stores, but still vascillating (B"H I have time to do so). Let me know what you find medic09.
Suddenly I don't feel like the 90-something mile drive to Chicago for kosher restaurants is so far anymore. You could always order flying pizzas and heat them up in a microwave.

wow do I feel blessed living in Jerusalem- with so many pizza and other glatt kosher eateries nearby, not to mention having a (serviceable if not always accurate) oven in the house. Thanks for allowing me to count my blessings, Not that I am doing so at ur expense, I hope you find what you are looking for...

Well, we're going to call a repair guy first and see if we can salvage this for a reasonable cost. If it is simple and not too expensive, we'll go that route.
