Hi! Does anyone know what a starting salary (per hour) would be for a nurse (new grad) in a pediatrician's office? The Dr. asked me to find out from other nurses what the going rate would be. He actually asked me how much I'm asking for and I answered "Um, I don't know - but I guess that's a bad answer!". He started laughing and said "No - it's an honest answer

It depends where the office is. Is it in NY? Is it in the city? suburb? Salaries vary accordingly.

Sorry about that, I forgot that I didn't put any info into my question. It's a frum Doctor's office in Crown Heights. It's a part time position - about 20 hours a week. I did do a payscale salary report, but I'm not sure how accurate it is, or if the amount they gave me (~23$/hr) is a starting salary in a Doctor's office.

$23/hr does sound low, even for a dr's office. That's how much I was making while teaching. Maybe I should have stuck with that!!! also, if the job is PT are there any benefits? I would ask for at least $28, but I've never worked a paying job as a nurse either so I don't really know the going rate.

Too bad you cant find out what the previous nurse made, or what her benefits were. Whatever you decide, you should ask for a salary review in half a year or so. Good luck in any event and remember you can do good nursing anywhere!

You need to ask locally, at several different offices. And note how long the nurses have been working.

chaya, I made $23/hour in a hospital in Bethlehem, PA. I worked SO hard on the neuro-med-surg floor with all the stroke patients. That does happen do be the going rate over there. It just depends. Oh, and I don't even make $28/hr now, in my hospital in Abington, PA. Sometimes, with differentials, but not all the time.

I guess it all depends on cost of living...

Thanks everyone! Unfortunately the question is no longer relevant since the Dr. decided that he's not going to hire a new nurse now. Hashem will help and I guess I'm just not meant to start working now!

Chaya, so sorry, he missed a golden opportunity- but you are now that much more prepared for when the real job comes along, ( its like dating right?) Hope this helped you hone your interviewing skills. In addition, you will know next time to come prepared if asked what your salary demands are. BTW, as it isn't great to be a 'new nurse' , can you volunteer anywhere just for the experience and to add to your resume?
