What can you tell me about it? The good, the bad and the ugly. I think it might be good for me.

I agree, you are upbeat, flexible and love a challenge. Have you checked it out?

What exactly is agency nursing? I get so confused with agency, contract, travel, etc . . . I am a new grad, so can someone explain it to me?

K so actually, it's kind of all one in the same. The agency I am in contact with does per diem and travel assignments. I am going to start with per diem, get a feel for the different facilities that they staff and hopefully take a 13 week assignment somewhere for some consistency. The cool thing is that I can work as infrequently as I want. So with my B"H 3 month old baby at home and pesach coming up, I am not locking myself into anything. But, I am still getting my foot back into the nursing door. B"H the concept of no benefits is OK, as my husband gets from his job. Here's davening it all works out for the best!

here's an update of my experience so far working for an agency: scheduled to work 4 times and was cancelled 4 times! 2 of those times I had already paid for babysitting so I could sleep before a night shift. Worked one shift at a hospital 45 minutes away. Got there before 6am and left at 8pm. WOAH was I exhausted. I totally forgot about my exercise class the next morning. Made it up on Sunday night ;-) But hey, I am getting paid, Baruch Hashem! My 5mo did not like drinking from the bottle while I was gone all day. Babysitter is suggesting I give her some bottle every day. :-( I missed cuddling with her. I am sure she missed cuddling with me. I still was glad to be back in the workforce, ya know?

Canceling 4 out of 4 times?! That is terrible!!! Is that their norm? Shouldn't they at least pay you something for being available?
6am till 8pm is a long days work! Well I guess it can only get better!
It might be a good idea to give the occasional bottle so that the baby gets used to it. It shouldnt ruin the nursing at this stage.
With the summer approaching, have you considered a camp nursing job? I did that with the babies and the work allows for nursing and cuddling...

I worked overnight last night for 13.5 hours. The times will go down once I don't need to get there early for a quick orientation. I worked at a sleepover camp last year it was not such a great experience, but I would do it again at a different camp. This summer I am looking to get PAID so I think my staffing agency might send me on some camp jobs, but mostly I will accept the hospital jobs, as they are highest paid. Truthfully, overnight worked out pretty well. Only needed about 3 hours of babysitting. So, I am up for doing it again. But only one shift per week. I will need time to recover! ;-)

A little bottle will be o.k. My granddaughter Liba Shifra also went on the modified short term hunger strike when Ima went with Abba for a job interview in L.A. BUT, Savta Bobbie won out. When she got hungry enough, she ate. And then, she figured out that there was breast milk in that bottle. Hoo-boy!! It did take a couple of weeks, but it all worked out. She is still breast feeding (9 months), eating solids and drinking from a bottle. And, Ima has a little breathing space (but no room in the freezer due to all that frozen breast milk).

ya she holds her own bottle now. getting used to it, Baruch Hashem. Good part about agency nursing: didn't work at all this past week due to shavuot and they don't care at all. Nice to not have the headache of figuring out how to take off etc.

My agency placed me with a day camp for special needs children and their siblings for the month of July. It's going great so far, Baruch Hashem. :-) I love camp!
