My floor is talking about instituting a uniform for the nurses. They had us vote on the color but then added new colors while I was off. Pretty much, they have reached a decision that we will all wear surgical green. Whether I like that color or not is less important to me than whether I will be able to find a scrub skirt that color. My manager knows that I only wear skirts and told me straight out that I can wear whatever color skirt I would like. (She is so amazing, I love her! I am so blessed to have her as a manager) The thing is, once there is a uniform, anyone who deviates sticks out and runs the risk of not being identified as a nurse. You may recall from my post about hair covering that I have been asked numerous bothersome questions including, "are you the cook?" I want my patients to know that I am their nurse. I do think I have 2 pairs of surgical green pants that I have been wearing for pajamas, so I guess I could get them made into skirts. Does anyone know of any scrubs companies that make skirts in surgical green? I may buy teal, as this is similar, but a little darker.
ugh, I am going to miss my pretty print tops!

Actually, I think folks will identify you according to the top, no matter the color of the skirt. And don't you all wear ID badges?

I hope you are right. I guess I am stressing for no reason...
yes we do, but many patients cannot see well enough to read that it says registered nurse vs clinical associate. Also, personally, mine always turns around, then you really cannot read it.

Well, they'll notice you're a bit more stylish. Now, don't you introduce yourself to family and patients? "Hi, I'm Rivka, one of the nurses..."

I hope that all your problems not be any more difficult!!! Although I do empathize, cant you die white skirts to whatever color you want? I agree with not wanting to stick out, although I am sure you stick out in your excellent work and other such things. Good Luck!

medic, of course I introduce myself as the nurse, but many patients are forgetful, or sometimes patient visitors come in after I have introduced myself etc. The idea of dying skirts was mentioned to me too. Also worth a try, but I have no experience with that, so I don't know how well it will turn out. Well, I have done tye-dye but that is not the look I am going for!

I'm cracking up at the idea of someone thinking you're a cook!

so to continue the saga, the specific teal that we are to wear is "Caribbean blue" and we must get it embroidered. spent a pretty penny on a couple of new embroidered shirts, so i hope i am not let go.
