Hi everyone!!
I am a new graduate nurse who is looking for a job. I had an interview and almost got the position, until i told the nurse manager that i cannot work on shabbat. I was told that it will be hard for me to find a position as a new nurse without experience if i am restricted as to my work availability. Today, i spoke to my doctor, who told me that he sees religious nurses in his hospital working on shabbat. I asked a few rabbis and none gave me permission to work. However, i know doctors go to work. Can anyone give me help/advice on this? I dont want to loose another potential job because of shabbat!
Thanks in advance

I wish i had the answer, I recently was refused a position also because I couldn't work on shabbat. My husband also asked the rabbi, same as you, doctor and all. he told me that most doctors don't have a heter to work on shabbat, they just do. also said that he probably couldn help make it happen , it would be worth fuirther dialog if i could tell him that i was walking to work and that transportation was not part of the equation. unfortunately, i can't walk to the hosptial, just too far and i'm not sleeping in a hotel, so back to square 1. Not something i want to do but i can't figure out what to do and meanwhile no job. no one wants to make an exception despite the so called nursing shortage. if you discover a way around this issue report back. LOL
