Just curious what part of the world everyone is living in, where you are in your nursing career (new nurse, student, out in the field already) and what area y'all are working in.
To start: I live in Indiana, just got my license in May (still think it's a fluke some days...) and will be starting a new job at a VA clinic towards the end of the month.

Hey chanab! Good question! I'm from Philadelphia, and went to nursing school there too. I graduated in May and I'm currently studying for the boards (well in theory anyways) and looking for a job in either Philly, NY or Baltimore. I'd like to do pediatrics and for now I am holding out hoping for that, but as a new grad I may have to do something else first...

I am not so familiar with orthodoxy in Indiana. Please enlighten me!

Good luck with boards esthern! Scariest test I ever took. Since hindsight is 20/20 - no I didn't listen myself - but it is definately worth it to take boards ASAP while everything is still fresh. Also what state are you planning to sit for them in? I think Maryland is part of the multi-state compact which may prove useful to you later on. We have a growing Orthodox community in South Bend complete with shul, kollel, yeshiva, bais yaakov, day school, kosher bakery, mikva, and torah center as they call it. If you ever need a small town to move to.... I know there is also an Orthodox community down in Indianapolis and Chabad at the IU campus way down in Bloomington.

My wife and I presently live in Santa Fe, NM. We came here for her work, and constantly try to tweak our plan to return to Israel. My BSN is from UNM. Bsc. from Touro. Educated in yeshivot in Israel, with a teaching cert from Shaalvim. I work as an ED nurse, and a flight paramedic. I'm also quite involved with a little hevra called Kol BeRamah, www.kolberamah.org. Before we came out here, I was teaching g'mara, humash, and navi at Maimonides School in Boston and worked Sundays as a paramedic. My 'ideal life' at this point would be to spend half a day in Rav Drori's beit midrash in Kiryat Shmonah, and half a day either in the ED (would have to be Tzfat or Tverya) or on the ambulance/helicopter for Magen David Adom. Would have to leave time for hiking the Golan and Galil. Meantime, we're trying to do some good in this galut... ;-)

Hi everyone. I'm from Fair Lawn, NJ and will be graduating from UMDNJ in 5 short weeks ;D I would like to work on a labor and delivery floor and then get my Master's as a Nurse-Midwife and Adult Women's Health NP followed by making aliyah. I would prefer to stay in the NY/NJ area to work, but am facing reality that I may have to move elsewhere in the country. Can anyone tell me which hospitals outside NY/NJ that are welcoming to new grads?

When I was working in Bethlehem, PA, there were nurses who commuted to my hospital from New Jersey. You may want to check out St. Luke's and Lehigh Valley Hospital. I can't promise that they pay well, though.

I live in St. Louis. I'm an 8 year veteran, work L&D, pediatric rehab and I also do camp nursing. I became a nurse hoping to work L&D for a couple of years and go straight for a CNM, but I found that as my kids got older (I went to nursing school with 5 little kids) and more numerous, it didn't get easier. I still plan on finishing the CNM, but due to my location and family situation, it's not terribly practical at the moment. I'm curious about how a US trained CNM fairs in Israel. I lived in Israel for 9 years and always planned on returning

Hi, I'm in Far Rockaway- went to school in Manhattan, graduated last May, passed the boards in July and have been looking for a job since! It's frustrating, so I'm glad that I found out about this support group!

A1, it seems the job market in the NY/NJ area is pretty tough. What do you think is holding you back from landing a job?

You didn't ask me, but I think that would be Assistant Director of Nursing. Same as Assistant CNO in some places.
No?
