The opposite of BSN in 10? Not good. Cutting professional corners. Make nursing more attractive; fund education; have community role models.

maybe they should make a distinction, like LPNs are here, and have technical training, but not as much assessment skills etc.

Rivka, sorry but they are trying to attract students, I think they are hoping the religious crowd will jump at it as it will give them a profession quickly. Besides Israel already has LPN's. who are obviously not well paid and hospitals loathe to have them as they really arent as qualified. Most are Russian who couldnt pass the RN and their average age is 55. The point is that they want to get more nurses on the units and quick. figuring they will "learn on the job". For years now they have tried doing this for Ethiopian girls, giving them a chance to become a nurse without any previous tests or high school diploma. In my eyes its a recipe for disaster, it cheapens the profession and in reality as of now, it isnt attracting enough of a following. Time will tell, all I know is that we in a nursing shortage at the moment. I do like the technical training thing that will allow fewer RNs with more technical help out there like med techs, Vital signs tech etc. but Israeli's dont get the value and think its better to overwork one nurse and have her do full care (feeding , bathing, transfers etc.) along with all her professional duties and have time to document as well. Another problem we are having is that there are more interest in RN's with their MSN that only want administrative positions and not enough of those to go around....
