I emailed her last night that I was feeling ill, and that I hoped by morning it would pass.
Just so happens it did not, so I emailed her again and texted her. She texted back, call please.
so I called her, with my fever and my dizzy and feeling like I wanted to throw up.
I said "Hi professor I am so sorry I am feeling really sick."
the response I got was this (kind of making it short but similar)
"Well first of all you should have called not texted, this is unprofessional. Secondly your missing a clinical day and you cannot make this up it's unacceptable. I am a student and when I was sick I went and I come to your clinicals sometimes sick and I stick through it. Your group keeps missing days and it's becoming a problem. I cannot let you turn in half of a homework, I have to email the school because I will have to give you an unsatisfactory for the day for not being here. Your patients are relying on you and you have to be here."
I responded, "but I am sick, and have a fever and feel dizzy. I feel like for my own safety, that I cannot drive let alone take care of a patient that they themselves are sick! It would be putting them at risk as well as me. I feel like staying home is being responsible. Are you saying that I cannot submit my reflective journal because I am missing a day?"
her response was, "I have to call the school, but this is a big problem with your group."
what the F!!! I have never been sick, I have been there EVERY day. Yes a lot of students in my group have been sick, but how is that my problem!?
Sorry for cursing, I am just P*SSED.
Luckily I was to tired to comprehend it, but my husband was ready to scream at her. He heard her loud voice in my phone, when I was laying in bed.
I called the school to complain this afternoon, when I finally woke up. They told me it's probably something she is going through and to just ignore it and move on. That it's not me it's her, and that I am not the only student complaining so just relax and remove myself from her issues.
btw this is also a professor that said if she sees us standing around looking at charts, that we should be in a library reading not taking care of patients. But if a doctor just gave a new order, and I want to verify it where else am I meant to check!?
